    Barry Gray (born Bernard Yaroslaw,[2] July 2, – månad 21, ) was an American radio personality. He is frequently referred to as "The Father of Talk Radio" for his significant contributions to the radio industry.

    Early New York career

    Barry Gray initially worked as a disc jockey (a role he portrayed in the short subjectSpin That Splatter) and worked for radio hållplats WOR in when big band leader Woody Herman called in while Gray was talking about him. Gray broadcast the call,[3] and the spontaneous live interview was such a hit with both his listeners and station bosses that the talk radioformat resulted. Gray subsequently began doing listener call-ins as well.

    WOR officials realized the attraktion of the talk format, and Gray worked an overnight shift there from to or ,[4][5] interviewing public figures from Al Jolson to Adam Clayton Powell Jr.[6] He

    Barry Gray (born John Livesey Eccles, 18 July - 26 April ) in Guernsey, Channel Islands, was a British musician, composer and arranger. He was best known for his contributions to AP Films and one of the original members.

    Life[]

    Gray's father, John Haworth Eccles was in stationery; both parents were said to be musically talented. He studied at the Royal Manchester College of Music and at Blackburn Cathedral, learning composition from Matyas Seiber.

    Career[]

    Gray's professional music career began with London publishers B. Feldman & Co. where he arranged scores for variety theatres, and he also worked for Radio Normandy. After war service with the R.A.F. he became a freelance composer and lyricist for radio, records and film music libraries. He joined the Performing Right Society in under his real name, but later changed it by deed poll to John Livesey Barry Gray. He spent several years as musical assistant to Eartha Kitt, Hoagy Carmichael and Vera Lynn.
