Hemlata is an Indian playback singer in Bollywood who had her classical training at a very young age. Her songs from the late 1970s are what made her most famous, particularly "Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se."

During the years 1977-1981 she had five nominations for the Filmfare Best Female Playback Award and one win, for 'Chitchor' in 1977, for her classical performance of the Ravindra Jain-composed duet "Tu Jo Mere Sur Mein," which she performed with K.J. Yesudas.

Background and Early Life

Hemlata, originally named Lata Bhatt, was born into a Marwari Brahmin family in Hyderabad and spent her early years in Calcutta.

She entered into marriage with Yogesh Bali, who happened to be the brother of Indian film actress Yogeeta Bali.
