    Industrial policy for UT sought

Anil Kumar, Home Secretary-cum-Secretary-Industries, Chandigarh Administration, has urged the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to draft an industrial policy for Chandigarh. “Let’s focus on a few key areas and draft a policy to give a vision and guidance to the industry in Chandigarh. The Draft Industrial Policy 2009 has become old now and we need to come up with a fresh draft. Like every business entity, cities need to change and innovate constantly,” said Kumar while interacting with the industry representatives at a session organised by the CII Chandigarh Council.

Sameer Goel, chairman, CII Council, shared the issues of concern to the industry with Mr Kumar. These include implementation of the MSMED Act in totality in Chandigarh, the growth of IT/ITES sector, simplification of procedures, infrastructure development, better connectivity and allowing need-based changes in the industrial areas.

It appears that an atmosphere of fear is being created again by the Punjab Police as Punjab is approaches elections..

Below are given the two versions of reported arrests of three alleged Sikh "terrorists". It is the version supplied by the PTI as published in Hindustan Times and other national newspapers that rest of India and the world community will read. The rest of India, perhaps, would be cheering the actions of Punjab Police.

However, after reading what is reported in the Punjab Newsline (an online magazine with a very small readership), one gets the impression that a case is being fabricated against these individuals. It is the version reported in the Hindustan Times that will stick in the minds of people of rest of India. The people of Punjab will keep wondering when will the mainline newspapers start to publish the balanced versions about what Punjab Police has been up to.
