Biography
Munaf Patel's tale is similar to a breed of Indian bowlers such as Sreesanth, Balaji and RP Singh who also broke through the Indian ranks with the same amount of experience backing them as this lad did. Blessed with raw pace, injuries forced him to reorder his motives to become a more all-round bowler with variations.
Yet, it was that pace which saw Patel lauded much before his international debut. When it did arrive, against England in in a Test at Mohali, it created history. He added supplementary feathers in his cap following a successful Caribbean tour the same year, by which time Patel started to make inroads into a permanent slot. Best ODI figures against Sri Lanka in further added up to a place in India's bowling attack for the World Cup. He played for the West Zone in the Duleep Trophy and Gujarat, Mumbai cricket team and Maharashtra cricket team in domestic arena. Patel was a member of the Indian team that won the Cricket World Cup. In November , he announced his retirement from cricket.[1] He was born in Ikhar, Gujarat, India. Domestic career[edit]Patel first gained prominence in at the age of 20 before he had even played first class cricket for Gujarat, when he was invited to the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai by the Indian chairman of selectors Kiran More. There he attracted the attention of visiting Australian captain Steve Waugh, and the director Dennis Lillee, a former Australian fast bowler, with his raw pace.
