After 30 years, he is arguably the most successful contemporary artist in South Africa. Exploring new subjects are testimony to the creative talents of this true master of his craft. His art does not know any language and is not restricted to Hendrik Viljoen got his Portchie- name from school, but it’s more than that, it’s a individ of different varieties. In essence, he is just a small boy from a small town, Tweeling in the Free State, where he grew up with good values and good creativity. He grew up with parents who was creative with what they did in their lives. They taught him to look out, not just for himself, but for the people around him. His whole being is made up of beautiful people around him who makes him smile and he returns the smile with his unique art. It offers more than just a picture. Local artist, Portchie Viljoen, is an international sensation. His work is mostly known for his vibrant use of colours. Yet, it is not just about slapping colour on a canvas, the artist says. There’s more to it.

The blue acquiring most of the canvas is striking. Most people would call it Royal Blue – except it is not… far from it. There is nothing ordinary about this blue. This is a Portchie Viljoen blue.
The local artist Jan Hendrik Viljoen (above), who is famously known as Portchie, got his nickname during school whilst he was working with his father in his green grocer store. Portchie has sold more than 18, original paintings and more than 1 million prints worldwide and now the talented artist will become the first to launch a South African NFT canvas art collection!
South Africa (25 August ) One of South Africas most beloved artists and arguably a household name in the world of art, Jan Hendrik Viljoen, aka Portchie, is breaking barriers by becoming South Africas first artist to sell a collection of generative canvas art through non-fungible tokens (NFTs) which is taking the world by storm.
By using a randomised digital generator, a collection of only 1, NFTs will be created starting on the 25th of August
Art is something that brings joy to my eyes and mind, and that makes life special for me. This project called Cycling by the Riverside is very exciting because Im not a digital artist, but I am able to achieve something like this, says Portchie.
An NFT is a digital asset that exists completely in the d
