Heavy metal genres
Subtypes of heavy metal rock music
A number of heavy metal genres have developed since the emergence of heavy metall (often shortened to metal) during the late 1960s and early 1970s. At times, heavy metal genres may overlap or are difficult to distinguish, but they can be identified by a number of traits. They may differ in terms of instrumentation, tempo, song structure, vocal style, lyrics, guitar playing style, drumming style, and so on.
Alternative metal
Main article: Alternative metal
Alternative metall is a style of heavy metall and alternative rock which emerged in the mid-1980s and gained popularity in the early 1990s.[1]
Alternative metall usually combines heavy metall with influences from genres like alternative rock, and in some cases, other genres not normally associated with metall as well. One of the main characteristics of alternative metall and its subgenres are heavily downtuned, mid-paced "chug"-like guitar riffs.[2]

While ‘The End Is Nigh’ may also represent the rallying cry for the biblical apocalypse, that is not my intention or implication, just my peculiar sense of absurdity.
“This is the way the world ends, not with a bang, but a whimper” – T.S. Eliot (1888‑1965)
You are probably tired of all the usual end‑of‑year retrospectives. For those few who aren’t weary of looking back, I am using t
