‘When Calls The Heart’ Star Reveals Father’s Death: ‘He Was My Hero’
As the stars of Hallmark‘s “When Calls The Heart” prepare to film the hit show’s 11th season in Langley, British Columbia, one of them is also coming to grips with a difficult loss. Viv Leacock, who’s played Joseph Canfield on the show since season 8, revealed in an Instagram post on July 2, 2023, that his father, Learie Lionel Leacock, has died.
Leacock’s in-depth and emotional post said his dad died at age 87 on June 1, 2023, which drew many comments from touched fans, fellow stars and family members. Born in Montreal and based in Vancouver, Viv Leacock has been part of the acting scene for almost 20 years. His big break came in 2002, in the Eddie Murphy action comedy, I Spy, where he was personally chosen by his comedic idol to play his right-hand man. Following this role, Viv continued his comedy work on a number of film and TV shows including Intern Academy (Dave Thomas and Dave Foley), Are we There Yet? and Are we Done Yet? (Ice Cube and Nia Long), Hot Tub Time Machine (Craig Robertson and John Cusack) and This Means War (Chris Pine, Tom Hardy and Reese Witherspoon). Viv would earn a Leo nomination for best supporting actor in a dramatic role in the environmental thriller The Thaw starring Val Kilmer. With over ninety roles in film and television productions Viv Leacock has a busy fall season ahead on three TV shows that include BBC America’s “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency”, Hallmark Channel’s “Hailey Dean Mystery: Murder with Love”, and the CW’s new series “Frequency”. Then following up in January 2017 on ABC TV Viv is part of an ensemble cast in the TV series “When We Rise”.
